I joined Rise Together Education because I’m passionate about ensuring students from all backgrounds can access higher education. I grew up in a country where I’ve seen people, like myself, from low-income backgrounds gain access to a transformative college education that changed their lives and that of their families. That investment in a university education helped me build a career that eventually brought me to the US. I care deeply about bridging this disparity in communities like Palo Alto and want to ensure that every student, no matter where they come from, has the opportunity to succeed, thrive, and shape a brighter future for us all.
 

Recognition Of Our Great Work Continues!

We proudly announce that RTE was named one of three 2024 beneficiaries of the Sohn San Francisco Investment Conference’s Excellence in Investing for Children’s Causes Foundation (EICCF). Others were Steph and Ayesha Curry’s Eat.Learn.Play, Posse Foundation, and SMART. We were honored to be selected to fulfill EICCF’s mission of improving graduation rates and enrollment in college and vocational training amongst underserved Bay Area high schoolers. Beneficiaries were vetted for their effectiveness in working with the students and schools they partner with and assist, as well as the efficiency of administrative expenses.

The Sohn SF Conference 2024, held in San Francisco on October 15, served as a platform for innovative thinkers to share their success stories, strategies, and insights, specifically aimed at advancing impactful causes through investment. The event brought together top-level executives, including CEOs, CIOs, and partners from Fortune 500 companies and prominent equity firms. RTE Board Members  Dawn Billman, Kimberly Schwan, Dami Bolarinwa (also an alumnus), and Alumna Allison Salinas attended the event to connect with these influential leaders, gain insights, and share their experiences with local business people.

How has RTE helped you throughout your college experience?

Throughout my college journey, RTE has been an essential resource. Navigating the college experience can be stressful, but knowing there’s always someone there for support has made all the difference. The periodic check-ins were one of the program’s most valuable aspects, and I have truly come to appreciate them. They kept me accountable, helping me stay on track academically while also kept me informed about important opportunities. While the financial support that RTE provides is only a small part of what they do, it truly eased the financial weight on my family and me. Higher education is expensive, and I am incredibly grateful that I had the opportunity to pursue it. The sense of community within RTE is amazing - genuine people who are truly interested in helping others. It’s a network of supportive individuals who have played a key role in helping me reach my goals.

Supporting Our Scholars in their Post-College Careers

On November 13th, RTE presented an excellent Networking & Career Zoom Panel led by Paly alumni Brianna Moreno-Alcocer, Brooklyn Hutchinson, Sydney Schwan, and Teagan Felt. The goal was to assist our scholars in the job search process. They set expectations for the process for students looking for work and shared strategies for getting their foot in the door with employers. About 10 current scholars and 10 mentors attended. Topics included understanding the months-long interview process, being prepared to talk about yourself and your weaknesses, how to utilize LinkedIn, and creating spreadsheets of companies contacted to manage the job search process. The panel was a huge success and helped our students prepare for post-college life. Thank you to our highly competent panelists for sharing their experiences in their path to a successful career and a happy life!
